按《大論》五十一云：「阿賴耶識或於一時，唯與一種轉識俱轉，所謂末那。何以故？由此末那，我見、慢等恒共相應思量行相。若有心位、若無心位，常與阿賴耶識一時俱轉，緣阿賴耶識以為境界，執我起慢思量行相。」《顯揚》所明，如《疏》具引。

According to the Great Treatise, fascicle fifty-one, it states: "The ālayavijñāna sometimes operates concurrently with only one kind of evolving consciousness, namely manas. Why? Because this manas has the mode of apprehension of cogitation, constantly associated with self-view, pride, and so forth. Whether in states with mind or states without mind, it always operates concurrently at the same time with the ālayavijñāna, taking the ālayavijñāna as its objective realm, grasping a self and generating pride, having the mode of apprehension of cogitation."
