Sūtra: The sameness of the nature of phenomena regarding the mundane dharmas of suffering and pleasure being of a single taste. Treatise: Mundane dharmas are briefly of eight kinds, namely gain, loss, and so forth. These eight kinds generally comprise two classes: the four contrary ones are called suffering, and the four compliant ones are called pleasure, because they generate joy and grief. The noble ones remain in their midst always of a single taste: gaining profit, they are not elated; encountering loss, they are not dejected; and so on up to: experiencing pleasure without attachment, and suffering without aversion. Because they are free from the eight mundane dharmas conceptually constructed, in all places they are of a single taste; this itself is spoken of as the "sameness of the nature of phenomena."
