內心之義傳有兩釋：一云內心體即第八，由第七識相應四惑緣第八識，令成有漏故名擾濁。二云內心即第七識，由相應惑而成染污，名為擾濁。

Regarding the meaning of 'internal consciousness', two explanations are traditionally transmitted: One says that the essence of internal consciousness is the eighth consciousness; because the four afflictions associated with the seventh consciousness apprehend the eighth consciousness and cause it to become sāsrava, it is called perturbing and polluting. The second says that internal consciousness is the seventh consciousness itself; because it becomes defiled by its associated afflictions, it is called perturbed and polluted.
