詳曰：若汎爾言，非無此義。辨論所說，但依主釋，故論斷云：隨境立名，順識義故。謂於六境了別名識，不言有境而名為識。

Detailed analysis: Speaking generally, it is not without this meaning. But in terms of what the Treatise explains, it is only a tatpuruṣa compound. Therefore the Treatise decides: 'Establishing the name in accordance with the object conforms with the meaning of consciousness.' This means that cognizing among the six objects is called consciousness; it does not say that possessing an object is called consciousness.
