That is to say, arrogance and deceit in the sixty-second and eighty-ninth fascicles of the Yogācārabhūmi are also entered among what is inverted. The sixty-second fascicle says: What is arrogance? It refers to transgressing morality due to dominant afflictions, and when accused by others based on seeing, hearing, or suspecting, one then relies on other matters, feigning other affairs, or uttering external words to mislead them. What is hypocrisy? It refers to fearing others or having expectations toward them, so that although one has committed grave offenses, one neither discloses nor acts upon them, and without a genuine intention, hypocritically displays affectionate, respectful, and gentle bodily and verbal actions before wise fellow practitioners of brahma-conduct. The eighty-ninth fascicle says: Harboring defilement in the mind to display one's own virtues, falsely manifesting deportment is named arrogance. Harboring defilement in the mind to display one's own virtues, either manifesting intimacy or engaging in gentle speech, is named hypocrisy.
