彼《顯揚論》又有作用，此論所無故，彼論云：問辭同前，答：自種為先，即彼前生為建立；彼生緣為和合故。自作業者，自所作用而得成辨；自所作業者，如眼之見業。如是所餘諸根，當知各別作業；又如地能持，水能爤火能燒，風能燥，如是等類是名外法各別作業。此論所無，會如本疏。

That Prakaraṇāryavācā also has 'functioning', which is absent in this treatise; hence that treatise says: The question is as before; Answer: Taking one's own seed as precursor; established by that very earlier arising; through the harmony of conditions for that arising. One's own actions: one's own functioning is accomplished; as for one's own actions, it is like the seeing action of the eye. The remaining faculties should likewise be known to each have their distinct actions; furthermore, just as earth can support, water can moisten, fire can burn, and wind can dry—such kinds are called the distinct actions of external phenomena. This is absent in this treatise; reconcile it as in the root Commentary.
