此《瑜伽論》三十八文,具如疏引。今略釋云:法謂一切有為、無為繫、不繫等,為因起言並名為法。名謂法名,由聞諸法種種名已,或自據教尋名、句、文而起於想,取境分齊善、惡等已,方起言說。亦依文、句而起於想,舉初攝餘,但云名也。

This is a passage from the thirty-eighth fascicle of the Yogācārabhūmi, fully cited in the Commentary. Now it is briefly explained: "dharmas" refers to all conditioned, unconditioned, bound, and unbound [phenomena], which serve as the cause for raising speech, and are all called dharmas. "Names" refers to the names of dharmas: having heard the various names of the dharmas, or on one's own seeking out names, phrases, and syllables based on the teaching, one gives rise to concepts; having grasped the demarcation of the object as wholesome, unwholesome, and so on, one only then initiates verbal expression. One also gives rise to concepts based on syllables and phrases; by presenting the first it subsumes the rest, so it merely says "names."
