Regarding the three moral natures of this cause, the Yogācārabhūmi states: conditions such as the earth, rain, and so forth can produce a sprout. Furthermore, associating with improper companions, hearing improper teachings, unmethodical attention (ayoniśo-manaskāra), and the force induced by prior habitual practice produce ignorance and so forth. Furthermore, associating with virtuous companions, hearing the true Dharma, methodical attention (yoniśo-manaskāra), and the accomplishment of the faculties created previously—these are the accepting causes of the three natures: indeterminate, defiled, and wholesome, respectively.
