《瑜伽論》說有三性別云，從大麥種生大麥芽，大麥苗稼不生餘類，如是所餘當知亦爾。又餘無明支及自種子，乃至有支能生那落迦，各生餘趣當知亦爾，即此望彼諸雜染法名定別因。又三乘性各於自乘能般涅槃，彼望清淨為定別因。

The Yogācārabhūmi states that there is a differentiation into the three natures, saying: from barley seeds arise barley sprouts, and the barley crop does not produce any other kind, and so one should know that the rest are also like this. Furthermore, the other link of ignorance and its own seed, up to the link of existence, can produce hell-beings, and each produces the other destinies, as one should also know; precisely these, in relation to those defiled phenomena, are called the determining cause. Furthermore, the lineages of the three vehicles can each achieve parinirvāṇa in their own vehicle; these, in relation to purification, are the determining cause.
