Regarding their three natures, the Yogācārabhūmi states: "Various hindering phenomena, such as frost and hail disasters, are the conflicting cause in relation to the growing crops. The absence of those and the lack of hindrances are the non-conflicting cause of the growing crops. Furthermore, the conflicting causes of these defiled phenomena are: being endowed with a supramundane spiritual disposition (gotra), encountering a Buddha appearing in the world, the expounding of the true Dharma, associating with virtuous companions, hearing the true Dharma, and methodical attention; when these various wholesome phenomena as described are cleared away or separated from, this is the non-conflicting cause of defiled phenomena. Furthermore, not being endowed with the spiritual disposition, not encountering a Buddha appearing in the world, being born in conditions lacking opportunity, not associating with virtuous companions, not hearing the true Dharma, unmethodical attention, and frequent cultivation of various wrongful behaviors—these, in relation to purification, are the conflicting cause; when this conflicting cause is lacking or separated from, this is called the non-conflicting cause of purification."
