Answer: Encompassing the seven: the first three encompass the first; the next three encompass the second; the next three encompass the third; the next three encompass the fourth; the next four encompass the fifth; the next two encompass the sixth; the last one encompasses the seventh. Next, encompassing the five: among the five, folly regarding meaning generally encompasses all nineteen; folly regarding views encompasses the first six of the nineteen and what arises from causes; folly regarding heedlessness encompasses ignorance regarding karma, vipāka, and both; folly regarding real meaning encompasses all ignorance regarding the Buddha and so forth up to the truth of the path; folly regarding abhimāna encompasses the last ignorance. Next, the mutual encompassing of the six: in the treatise, it only correlates the six and the seven, not mentioning the nineteen, because the meaning is known by inference. Thus the treatise states: 'Such six distinctions of avidyā should be understood in order according to the seven matters of ignorance spoken of before. In the latter two matters of ignorance, combining them into one gives rise to this final gloom of avidyā.'
