釋曰：謂無明、行、愛、取、有五，能生當苦名能生苦，其識、名色、六處、觸、受五是種子，是彼當來生老等因，名苦胎藏。生及老死二唯是苦。既云識等名苦胎藏，明非是現。

Explanation: Ignorance, volitional formations, craving, grasping, and existence—these five can generate future suffering, hence they are called 'capable of generating suffering.' Consciousness, name-and-form, the six sense bases, contact, and feeling—these five are seeds, which are the causes for that future birth, aging, and so forth, hence they are called 'the womb-matrix of suffering.' Birth and aging-and-death—these two are solely suffering. Since it is said that consciousness and so forth are called 'the womb-matrix of suffering,' it is clear that they are not actual manifestations.
