If the body and karma have already attained [cessation] not through deliberation, they do not arise again; therefore, one only sustains the karma that induces the body, causing the body not to be cut off. Following this, under the word 'again' (geng) in the text of the Commentary, the word 'no' (wu) has dropped out; or perhaps it has not dropped out. Now, before the extension, suppose [a lifespan of] one hundred years is attained; the life beyond the one hundred years would attain cessation not through deliberation, but because of the subsequent extension, the life beyond the one hundred years is enabled to continue, hence it is said that 'what has attained cessation not through deliberation arises again.' That what has attained cessation not through deliberation is allowed to arise will be explained in the later Commentary; for now we rely on the latter explanation.
