The commentary states: 'Nature of non-self' reveals that its intrinsic nature is precisely the meaning of 'true' (tatha). 'Without change' clarifies that it is without alteration, which is precisely the meaning of 'thusness' (tathatā). Second, the nature of non-self, because it is free from the two selves. Third, emptiness, because all defilements do not operate in it. The Expository Treatise states: 'Because by taking this as an object, it can cause all defiled matters to be entirely empty and tranquil.'
