7.510

按《攝論》第七云：成立對治所治障故，為欲對治不發趣因，故立施戒。不發趣因，謂著財位及著室家。為欲對治雖已發趣，復退還因，故立忍進。退還因者，謂處生死有情違犯所生眾苦，及於長時善品加行所生疲怠。為欲對治雖已發趣、不復退還而失壞因，故立定惠。失壞因者，謂諸散動及邪惡惠。如是成立對治所治障故，唯立六數。

According to the seventh fascicle of the Mahāyānasaṃgraha: In order to establish the antidotes to the obstacles to be counteracted: in order to counteract the causes for not setting out [on the path], giving and morality are established. The causes for not setting out are attachment to wealth and status, and attachment to family. In order to counteract the causes of falling back despite having already set out, patience and vigor are established. The causes of falling back are the manifold sufferings produced by the transgressions of sentient beings while abiding in saṃsāra, and the fatigue and indolence produced by practicing good factors over a prolonged time. In order to counteract the causes of deterioration and destruction despite having already set out and not falling back, meditative concentration and wisdom are established. The causes of deterioration and destruction are all distractions and wrong or evil wisdom. Because they are thus established as antidotes to the obstacles to be counteracted, only the number of six is established.
