《疏》判此定非地前得。有義彈云：亦未可依。雖復勝定多依第四，亦有通依餘地生故。又不可以二乘不得證是無漏，地前菩薩所有修行亦非二乘所知境故。戒及惠學並通地前，何故定學唯說地上？故通地前以之勝也。

The Commentary judges that this concentration is not attained prior to the stages. There is an opinion that criticizes this, saying: This also cannot be relied upon. Although superior concentration mostly relies on the fourth [dhyāna], it can also arise relying generally on other stages. Furthermore, one cannot prove it is uncontaminated merely because the two vehicles do not attain it, since all practice of bodhisattvas prior to the stages is also not an object known by the two vehicles. Both the trainings in moral discipline and wisdom extend to prior to the stages; why would the training in concentration alone be spoken of only above the stages? Therefore, extending to prior to the stages is superior.
