又顯此論或總、別言，不同《對法》望後品說。若不爾者，初品以後所有品道皆勝於前，此即無有不起若別、若總二勝進道。既不如是，明不同彼。或「總」言顯是不定也，義如《疏》辨；《對法》不言或總、別故，容有不起勝進道時。

This also shows that the words "or generally" and "separately" in this Treatise do not, like the Abhidharmasamuccaya, speak relative to the subsequent grade. If it were not so, all the paths of the grades after the first grade would be superior to the preceding; this would mean there is none who does not give rise to either the separate or general two paths of excellence. Since that is not the case, it clearly is not like that [text]. Or, the word "generally" indicates that it is indeterminate, the meaning being as analyzed in the Commentary; since the Abhidharmasamuccaya does not say "or generally" or "separately," there may be times when one does not give rise to the path of excellence.
