述曰：此顯教因。若一切法唯有內識，此識能變似色等眼等十處相現，無離識外實色等處，世尊經中亦應不說有色等十種處。眼等、色等，自體變礙，名有色等處。謂經中說：云何為眼？謂四大所造眼識所依淨色為性，乃至廣說。

The Commentary says: This explains the reason based on scripture. If all phenomena were only internal consciousness, and this consciousness could transform and appear as the aspects of the ten bases, such as the eye and matter, without real bases of matter and so on existing apart from consciousness, the World-Honoured One in the sūtras should also not have said that there are the ten bases of matter and so forth. That the eye and matter, by their own nature, undergo change and obstruction is why they are called 'bases of matter and so forth.' That is, the sūtra states: 'What is the eye? It has as its nature the subtle form that is produced from the four great elements and serves as the support of eye-consciousness,' and so on at length.
