述曰：就第一段，自下第三，次有三頌，釋外所引有色等教。引教證不成，故知唯有識。初之一頌，引教證色有別意，成唯識；次有一頌，引教證色有密意，成唯識；後之一頌，引教證色有勝利，成唯識。今總非云此教非因。何故非因？有別意故。

The Commentary says: Regarding the first section, below is the third part: next there are three verses explaining the scriptures teaching matter and so forth cited by the opponent. Since the citation of scriptural teaching to prove [external] matter fails, one knows that there is consciousness-only. The first verse cites scriptural teaching regarding matter as having an underlying intention, establishing consciousness-only. The next verse cites scriptural teaching regarding matter as having an esoteric intention, establishing consciousness-only. The last verse cites scriptural teaching regarding matter as having superior benefit, establishing consciousness-only. Now it generally negates [their claim], saying that this scriptural teaching is not a reason. Why is it not a reason? Because it had an underlying intention.
