述曰：「如是」者，牒眼識；「乃至」者，略中也。謂略中間耳、鼻、舌三識也。舉五識中，初、後二識，以作其法，准餘可知。

The commentary says: 'In this way' refers back to the visual consciousness; 'up to' abbreviates what is in the middle. That is to say, it abbreviates the three intermediate consciousnesses: auditory, olfactory, and gustatory. Adducing the first and last of the five consciousnesses to establish the principle, one may understand the rest by analogy.
