The Commentary says: Below, the objection is properly related: first the verse is briefly presented, and then the inquiry is extensively stated. In the verse, the first line quotes the Mahāyāna thesis, and together with the phrase 'should not be established' in the fourth line, it constitutes the actual reasoning of the objection, which applies universally to all four objections. That is, if it is said that consciousness is without a real object, then spatial determination should not be established, and so forth, as will be understood below. The verse in the old translation says: 'Space and time are entirely undetermined; / there is no non-determination of stream; / the performance of actions should not be established, / if there is vijñapti-mātra without dust.' Its meaning is complete, but the phrasing is inverted, as one who investigates will naturally know.
