述曰：釋頌下句，奪彼憶持。謂從過去似境五識，今此後位與別境念相應之時，有緣過去分別意識，變似前五識所緣境現，無曾現在受離心境。眼等五識，從此今時，與念相應，有一意識緣前五識離心之境。

Commentary: This explains the second line of the verse, taking away their [concept of] memory. That is, from the past five consciousnesses that resembled the object, now at this subsequent state when associated with the object-determining [caitta] mindfulness, there is a conceptual mental consciousness apprehending the past that transforms and appears resembling the object apprehended by the previous five consciousnesses; there was never any present experience of an object apart from the mind. From this, at the present time, associated with mindfulness, the five consciousnesses—eye and the rest—have a mental consciousness apprehending the object of the previous five consciousnesses apart from the mind.
