述曰：即說於此分別意識，緣曾現在不離識境，名為憶持曾所受識。所以者何？由曾五識及同時意，緣即識境，熏成種子，今時相續，意於此位能憶前境，名為憶持，非曾五識境實離於心，今時猶有意識緣之，名曾受識。

Commentary: This conceptual mental consciousness, apprehending an object that was present in the past and not apart from consciousness, is called the consciousness remembering what was previously experienced. Why is that? Because the past five consciousnesses and simultaneous mental consciousness apprehended an object identical to consciousness, perfuming seeds; now continuing in succession, the mental consciousness at this state can remember the previous object, which is called remembering; it is not that the object of the past five consciousnesses was truly apart from the mind, and that there is still a mental consciousness apprehending it now, that is called the consciousness of what was experienced.
