Commentary: Below is the third major section consisting of half a verse resolving the Hīnayāna and non-Buddhist objection: drawing an analogy from dreaming to the waking state, one should know that objects are non-existent, which is a fallacy. First it relates their objection; only then does it explain and refute it. In relating the objection, it first cites what the author of the treatise clarified regarding consciousness-only; then it directly presents the objection. This is the first part: the line of reasoning previously stated by the author of the treatise, that just as in a worldly dream consciousness arises even though there is no object, so the waking consciousness can arise without an object—this cites the equivalence in meaning between dream and waking consciousnesses.
