Commentary: This presents the objection: Dreams and waking are identical in lacking objects, and in both waking and dreaming, all kinds of karma are performed. Why is it that waking actions produce painful results or even present retribution and so forth, whereas actions performed in dreams produce slight and inferior results or no results at all? For example, killing a person in a dream definitely incurs no present retribution of being killed by another, whereas if one kills while awake, one will definitely incur the present retribution of being killed by another; thus the future results experienced must certainly be different. As with killing another, committing sexual misconduct with another, and all other actions, their results are likewise. This is the opponent challenging the treatise master with an inquiry.
