述曰：先釋下半頌能成喻也，如世間鬼惱亂有情內意念力，令他有情失本正念，心發狂等。或鬼意變彼，令他得異夢。「如鬼等」者，瞿波解云：等取天神、龍神、犍達縛、夜叉神、仙人等。及如胎中子，由母憂惱，子心變異，或生、或死；或子起欲樂，母隨子欲得夢。

Commentary: This first explains the lower half of the verse, which establishes the analogy. Just as in the world a spirit afflicts and disturbs sentient beings through its internal mental intention, causing other sentient beings to lose their original correct mindfulness, causing their minds to go mad, and so forth. Or the spirit's mind transforms them, causing others to have strange dreams. Regarding 'spirits and the like,' Gopa explains: 'and the like' includes devas, nāgas, gandharvas, yakṣas, ṛṣis, and so forth; and just as with a child in the womb, through the mother's grief and anxiety, the child's mind is altered, resulting either in birth or death; or the child gives rise to desire and pleasure, and the mother has dreams in accordance with the child's desire.
