述曰：此論主釋，由知他心，名他心智，不如實故，可說唯識。論主且約菩薩已下他心智答。所以者何？此等他心智雖緣他心，不能如實稱似彼心，以他心為質，大分雖同，不親緣著，與彼少異，名不如實，至下當知。

The Commentary states: This is the treatise master's explanation. Because it knows others' minds, it is called knowledge of others' minds; because it does not [know them] as it truly is, vijñapti-mātra can still be maintained. The treatise master replies for the time being with reference to the knowledge of others' minds from the bodhisattvas on down. Why is this? Although such knowledges of others' minds take others' minds as object, they cannot correspond to and resemble those minds as they truly are: taking the other's mind as the basic archetype, although they are for the most part similar, they do not directly contact it and are slightly different from it, which is called 'not as it truly is', as will be known below.
