述曰：自下外人正為徵問。非離於識，別有實體色等外法，為色等識，各別境耶？其眼等識緣色等故，變似色等，名色等識，非說色等，名色等識。

The Commentary says: From here below, the opponent directly makes his inquiry. Is it not that, apart from consciousness, there are distinct, real substances of external phenomena such as form that serve as the distinct objects for the consciousnesses of form and so forth? Because the eye-consciousness and so forth take form and so forth as objects and transform to resemble form and so forth, they are called the consciousnesses of form and so forth; it is not that form and so forth are called the consciousnesses of form and so forth.
