1.52

解云：「諸論中但言執阿賴耶識為我、我所，不言執其相分是其我所。末那直執阿賴耶識為我、我所，何能復更外執相分以為我所？於義不可。是故不緣第八阿賴耶識，緣於種子五根、五塵。」

Explanation: "In the treatises, it is only said that it grasps the ālaya-vijñāna as the self and what belongs to the self; it is not said that it grasps its nimitta-bhāga as what belongs to the self. The manas directly grasps the ālaya-vijñāna as the self and what belongs to the self; how could it further externally grasp the nimitta-bhāga as what belongs to the self? In terms of meaning, this is unacceptable. Therefore, it does not cognize the eighth ālaya-vijñāna, [which in turn] cognizes the seeds, the five sense faculties, and the five sense objects."
