後五句是立宗意。初二句標，一切立宗不過此故，一為成立自宗、二為破壞於他。後三句釋，一為制伏於他，釋上成立自宗；二為摧屈於他，釋上破壞他宗；三為悲愍於他，成自破他皆悲愍故。

The last five phrases are the intentions in establishing a thesis. The first two phrases state [the points], for all establishments of a thesis do not go beyond these: first, to establish one's own doctrine; second, to refute the other. The latter three phrases explain: first, to subdue the other, which explains establishing one's own doctrine above; second, to crush the other, which explains refuting the other's doctrine above; third, out of compassion for the other, for both establishing one's own and refuting the other are motivated by compassion.
