Question: "Since proofs are multiple, why is it stated in the singular as 'a proof'?" Answer: "The Nyāyamukha explains: 'To show that they collectively constitute the single nature of a proof; from this it should be known that whatever [member] is deficient is called a fallacy of the proof.' This is because lacking a member means it is not of the nature of a proof."
