Question: 'Why is it that while there are nine kinds of fallacies of the thesis, the delimitation of being universally accepted here only delimits three?' Answer: 'Here, it is merely because when the thesis is not universally accepted, its constituent bases must be universally accepted; therefore it only delimits three, and does not intend to exhaustively delimit all fallacies of the thesis. The Nyāyamukha, in establishing the thesis, delimits only five fallacies, by saying: "Not contradicted by its contradictory meaning." This treatise, relying on that to delimit five, therefore states only three; by saying "according to oneself" (svatantra / svayaṃ), it delimits being already established in agreement (siddhasādhana). These delimitations are not exhaustive; the Nyāyamukha omitted five, as has been explained before, just as the example states "showing the invariable presence in the sapakṣa of the reason" without delimiting application (upanaya) and conclusion (nigamana); therefore here there are only three.'
