Question: "Why does the thesis alone indicate 'its nature as that which is to be established', while the reason and example do not state 'that which establishes'?" Answer: "When the thesis states 'that which is to be established', it already reveals that the reason and example are that which establishes; the exposition being complete, there is no need to state it again. Furthermore, the thesis had not been stated previously, so out of fear of confusion it had to be presented; the reason and example were already evident, so why state it again? Furthermore, the thesis contradicts ancient views, so 'that which is to be established' is stated to distinguish the ancient and the modern; the reason and example do not contradict them, so the words 'that which establishes' are not stated as an exclusion. Furthermore, it was previously stated at the beginning that 'a thesis and the rest are many statements called a proof'; having already been stated before, it is not needed later."
