Among the nine kinds of faults stated above, they are fewer or more depending on their respective positions. Now, as a general rule, within each fault there are two kinds of tetralemmas: oneself, the other, both, neither; and whole, partial. Taking the first [case] in pratyakṣa, contradicting one's own pratyakṣa, against contradicting one's own anumāna in anumāna, to form a tetralemma: there is contradicting one's own whole pratyakṣa and not contradicting one's own whole anumāna; there is contradicting one's own whole anumāna and not contradicting one's own whole pratyakṣa; there is contradicting one's own whole pratyakṣa and also contradicting one's own whole anumāna; there is neither contradicting one's own whole pratyakṣa nor contradicting one's own whole anumāna—this makes the first tetralemma. Since there are eight alternatives in anumāna, just as one's own pratyakṣa is contrasted [with it] to make a tetralemma, contrasting the remaining seven in pratyakṣa with the eight alternatives in anumāna to each make a tetralemma is also like this. In this way, when anumāna is mutually contrasted to form alternatives, it amounts to sixty-four kinds of tetralemmas. In this way, combining the eight alternatives of pratyakṣa up to the eight alternatives of [siddhasādhana] (establishing what is already established), since one [group of] eight alternatives of pratyakṣa has eight classes of sixty-four tetralemmas, they combine into 512 kinds of tetralemmas. Contrasting the alternatives of anumāna with the remaining seven kinds of sixty-four tetralemmas combines into 448 kinds of tetralemmas. Self-scripture against the remaining six kinds of sixty-four alternatives combines into 384 kinds of tetralemmas. Worldly consensus against the remaining five kinds of sixty-four alternatives combines into 320 kinds of tetralemmas. One's own words against the remaining four kinds of sixty-four alternatives combines into 256 kinds of tetralemmas. The qualifier against the remaining three kinds of sixty-four alternatives combines into 192 kinds of tetralemmas. The qualificand against the remaining two kinds of sixty-four alternatives combines into 128 kinds of tetralemmas. Both being unestablished against the remaining one kind of sixty-four alternatives. In total, they combine into 2,304 kinds of tetralemmas. Whether it is an alternative or not an alternative, conform to the previous eight alternatives and reflect upon each according to reason. Fearing that the text would become excessively verbose, I have therefore summarized and ceased.
