Question: 'Since the example relies on the reason, what is the purpose of adducing that pot and the like?' Answer: 'Substrata are of two kinds: 1. the substratum of its own nature (svabhāvāśraya); 2. the substratum of what is aided. The pot is the substratum of its own nature; the reason is the substratum of what is aided. One says: speaking exhaustively of the principle, according to the treatise, it only analyzes the substratum in terms of its own nature; looking at unestablished for both and unestablished for one, it is solely with respect to the substratum of the example; it cannot be said that on the immaterial reason, unestablished for both and unestablished for one do not accept immateriality. It is solely whether one accepts or does not accept with respect to the substratum of the example. This statement is excellent, because it conforms to the text of the treatise.'
