"Next, expounding the section on explaining the significance" means indicating and revealing. Below, in the second part, the detailed explanation, there are three sections: First, because the correct principle to be distinguished has no heterodox narrowness, it first clarifies "revealing the correct significance." After establishing the correct is complete, it is proper to dispel the heterodox; hence, second is "countering heterodox attachments." Having shown the right and wrong, that which is right can be entered; hence, third is "aspects of setting out toward the path." Such is the intention of the sections. These three distinct phrases are the titles of the three sections. From "revealing the correct significance" downward directly clarifies the first section. Herein there are two parts: first, explaining the title and chapter heading; second, from "relying on the one mind" downward, directly explaining the correct significance. In the second part there are two: first, a concise explanation of the general and the particular; second, from "the mind as tathatā is the one dharmadhātu" downward, a broad explanation listing the particulars. In the first part there are four: first, generally presenting the number; second, listing the two chapter headings; third, a concise explanation; fourth, from "What does this mean?" downward, a further explanation. "Relying on the one mind dharma": excluding the two categories of form and non-manifesting [action], there is only the one category of mind; hence it is called "one mind." Clarifying the meaning with respect to this is called "relying on." "Has two doors": following the meaning according to the number. From "What are the two?" downward is the second part, listing the two chapter headings. "The mind as tathatā" is the ninth consciousness; being completely true, it is called the mind as tathatā. "The mind as arising and ceasing" is the eighth consciousness; according with conditions, it becomes false, gathering the essence into the function, and is subsumed under the mind as arising and ceasing. One master also says: "it is the arising and ceasing of the six consciousnesses and the seventh consciousness."
