The phrase "identical to mind, non-enlightened, and always without distinction" explains the absence of the equality of essence: because apart from mind there is no distinct difference of mental factor dharmas, it is said that "identical to mind, non-enlightened, and always without distinction." Since there is no equality of essence, whereon could the other two depend? For this reason there is no shared cognition or shared object; hence it says: "because they do not share the same cognitive characteristic or objective characteristic."
