問：《攝大乘》說「要具四義方能受熏故，說常法不能受熏。」何故？此中說以無明熏於真如。答：彼論且約可思議熏故，說常法不能受熏。此論就於不思議熏故，說無明熏真如，真如熏無明。如是二種熏義異故，二論不相違也。

Question: The Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: "Only when possessing four characteristics can something receive perfuming; therefore, permanent dharmas cannot receive perfuming." Why does it say here that avidyā perfumes tathatā? Answer: That treatise provisionally considers conceivable perfuming; therefore it says that permanent dharmas cannot receive perfuming. This treatise relies on inconceivable perfuming; therefore it says that avidyā perfumes tathatā, and tathatā perfumes avidyā. Because these two kinds of perfuming differ in meaning, the two treatises do not contradict each other.
