1.22

同：真如門中，說唯空義，生滅門內，說不空義，為不如是耶？答：一往相配，不無是義，故上立義分真如相中，但說能示摩訶衍體；生滅門中，亦說顯示大乘相用。就實而言則不如是。故下論文，二門皆說不空義。

Question: In the gate of tathatā only the meaning of emptiness is expounded, and within the gate of arising and ceasing the meaning of non-emptiness is expounded—is it not so? Answer: Correlating them superficially, this meaning is not absent; hence in the preceding section establishing the meaning, within the characteristics of tathatā, it only says that it can show the essence of the Mahāyāna, while in the gate of arising and ceasing, it also says that it shows the characteristics and function of the Mahāyāna. If speaking according to the real truth, however, it is not so. Therefore, in the subsequent text of the treatise, both gates expound the meaning of non-emptiness.
