"Awakening to the abiding of thoughts": within the characteristic of abiding, although one cannot posit dust-objects outside the mind, one grasps the causes and conditions of persons and dharmas and abides [therein]. Bodhisattvas of the dharmakāya awaken to the characteristics of persons and dharmas being only the nature of consciousness. It intends to show that the mind-essence that is characterized, having previously awakened to the characteristic of change, was still asleep in the dream of the characteristic of abiding; now conforming with the true wisdom of consciousness-only, they attain awakening from the dream of the characteristic of abiding; hence it says "awakening to the abiding of thoughts." Because of attaining this awakening, the four kinds of the characteristic of abiding are extinguished and do not arise; hence it says "thoughts have no characteristic of abiding."
