三者與下修行信心分末「復次，眾生初學是法」下勸生淨土文而作因緣。以彼文中舉勝方便，令彼觀解，分得相應眾生恐後報遷，遇緣成退，故令往生使不退也。此當上品。

The third serves as the condition for the passage at the end of the "Section on Cultivating Faith" that encourages rebirth in the pure land, beginning from "Furthermore, when sentient beings first study this Dharma." In that text, a superior skillful means is adduced so that those sentient beings whose contemplative understanding has attained a degree of correspondence, but who fear being moved by future retribution and encountering conditions that result in retrogression, are caused to attain rebirth so that they will not retrogress. This corresponds to the superior grade.
