3.143

前中言此人者，機欲之人。諸佛菩薩者，出外緣體。從初發意下，明能感緣機修行時也。若見若念者，正明行者之心感用器也，謂見其身形念其功德也。用相中二：初、正明差別之用；二、「以起大悲」下，辨用之益。

In the former [part]: 'this person' refers to the person of capacity and desire. 'Buddhas and bodhisattvas' reveals the substance of the external condition. From 'from when they first generate the resolve' on explains the time of practice for the capacity that is able to evoke the condition. 'Either see them or be mindful of them' directly explains the practitioner's mind as the vessel that evokes the function; that is, seeing their bodily form and being mindful of their virtues. In the marks of function there are two [parts]: first, directly explaining the differentiated function; second, from 'because of giving rise to great compassion' on, distinguishing the benefits of the function.
