○第二廣說中有三：先止，次觀，後還雙運。止中有五：一、修止方法；二、顯止勝能；三、辨其魔事；四、簡偽異真；五、示益勸修。前中有二：初、明勝人能入，後、顯障者不能。前中亦二：初、託靜息心，修止方便；二、「久習淳熟」下，明止成得定，除障不退。前中二：初約外緣，後內安心。

Part 2, the detailed explanation, contains three [sections]: first, calm; next, insight; and finally, their conjoined practice. Within calm there are five [parts]: 1. the method of cultivating calm; 2. revealing the supreme efficacy of calm; 3. identifying demonic phenomena; 4. distinguishing the counterfeit from the genuine; 5. indicating the benefits and encouraging practice. The first part contains two [subparts]: first, clarifying that superior people can enter; next, showing that obstructed people cannot. The first of these also contains two: first, relying on quietude to bring rest to the mind as the expedient means for cultivating calm; second, from “when long practiced and fully ripened” onward, clarifying that calm is accomplished and samādhi is attained, eliminating obstacles and becoming non-retrogressing. The first of these has two: first regarding external conditions, and second calming the mind internally.
