答中先釋煩惱礙。言以依染心能見能現者，後三細染也。妄取境界者，通攝前三染心，以同依境起故。違平等性者，釋成礙義。以此染心能所差別，乖根本智能所平等，所以障於理智。

In the answer, the affliction hindrance is explained first. 'Because relying on the defiled mind there are the ability to perceive and the ability to manifest' refers to the latter three subtle defilements. 'The false grasping of objective realms' collectively subsumes the former three defiled minds, as they equally arise based on objective realms. 'Opposing the nature of equality' explains the completion of the meaning of hindrance. Because these defiled minds have differences of subject and object, contradicting the equality of subject and object in fundamental cognition, they obstruct the cognition of ultimate reality.
