Within this, there are four lines: 1. Horizontally revealing that the virtues of the activity are vast, numerous, and immeasurable. 2. Vertically revealing that the root of the activity runs deep, exhausting the limits of the future. 3. Revealing that the superior capacity of the activity responds to capacities effortlessly. 4. Revealing that the superior benefit of the activity enriches without being in vain. In this manner, these are the great functions of tathatā of both the saṃbhogakāya and nirmāṇakāya, being continuous and uninterrupted without beginning or end. As the Suvarṇaprabhāsasūtra says: 'As for the nirmāṇakāya, because it is continuously uninterrupted from beginningless saṃsāra, and because it can maintain the qualities uncommon to all buddhas, so long as sentient beings are not exhausted its function is also not exhausted; therefore it is said to be permanently abiding.' The Ratnagotravibhāga says: 'What is accomplishing benefit for oneself? It means attaining liberation, leaving far behind the afflictive obscurations and cognitive obscurations, and attaining the unobstructed, pure dharmakāya; this is called accomplishing benefit for oneself. What is accomplishing benefit for others? Having attained the accomplishment of benefit for oneself, from beginningless ages naturally relying on those two kinds of buddha-bodies to manifest sovereign conduct in the world; this is called accomplishing benefit for others.'
