The third is the skillful means of initiating and increasing wholesome roots. This means diligently making offerings to and paying homage to the three jewels, praising, rejoicing in, and entreating all buddhas; because of a sincere and deep mind that cherishes and reveres the three jewels, faith is able to increase, and only then can one resolutely seek the unexcelled path. Furthermore, being protected by the power of the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha, one is able to eliminate karmic obstacles and cause wholesome roots not to retrogress, because of conforming to dharmatā and being free from the obstacle of delusion.
