問：豈將入不退位，不用增上起行力耶？何不更失發心也？答：一、能發心位劣，不能起加行故；二、所趣位未勝，不須加行故，是故不失也。

Question: Could it be that when about to enter the stage of non-retrogression, one does not employ the power of generating practice through superior conditions? Why is an aspiration not further established? Answer: First, the stage of one capable of giving rise to aspiration is inferior and cannot initiate preparatory application; second, the stage approached is not yet superior and does not require preparatory application; therefore [an additional aspiration] is not established.
