“Fundamental wisdom” has two classes: first, wisdom in accordance with principle produced through practice; second, the original enlightenment wisdom of tathatā. Mundane wisdom also has two: first, wisdom in accordance with measure produced through practice; second, the wisdom of original enlightenment conforming to defilement. Because the defiled mind is agitated and moving, conflicting with the unmoving, impartial wisdom of original enlightenment, it is called the “hindrance of affliction.” Furthermore, because avidyā fails to comprehend that movement is itself stillness, one cannot know distinctively amidst movement; this is the “hindrance to wisdom.”
