First, in unfolding the conditions according to faculties: in the treatise, "the two conditions of near and distant" means that because hindrances are thick or thin, internal perfuming is consequently made potent or impotent. Due to internal perfuming, when meeting excellent conditions externally, good roots are aroused, which consequently have superiority or inferiority. Due to superiority or inferiority, faculties are caused to be ripe or unripe; thereby, sharp and dull faculties, as well as slowness and swiftness in entering the Way, are formed.
