14.40

一、總中，論　從本等者，顯無有始，故云從本已來。揀非體外，故云自性。明無欠少，故云滿足。意在普該，故云一切。功能德業，故云功德。

In the first general [passage], the treatise states: "From the beginning," and so forth, reveals that there is no beginning; hence it says "from the origin onward." Discerning that it is not outside the essence, it says "its own nature." Clarifying that it lacks nothing, it says "replete with." Intending to be all-encompassing, it says "all." Functional and virtuous activity, hence it says "merits."
